about Laura Stephan, PsyD, LP

Therapy Approach

clinical psychologist and somatic/relational therapist

My warm, gentle presence as a therapist honors where you are at. Clients often say that they feel safe, not judged, and respected by me. In trauma and attachment therapy work this is so important as we are often working with overwhelming feelings and topics.

Being a gentle therapist, however, doesn’t mean I can’t give you some direction. People often come to me feeling lost - they:

  • Thought they were doing well but were surprised by old feelings resurfacing

  • Have tried many healing approaches or therapists and nothing has helped

  • Don’t understand their emotion experiences and feel “crazy”

I will help you identify what you are currently experiencing, and a path to change it. If you are having trouble understanding your experiences, I can help you name your current difficulties. I teach targeted coping skills for emotions and trauma responses. My goal is to help you know yourself better and have the tools to cope when you feel overwhelmed.

I utilize these specific techniques to help us on this path:

  • Relational therapy

  • Somatic therapy, specifically informed by Sensorimotor Psychotherapy

  • Mindfulness

  • Experiential therapy (practicing skills in session)

  • Calming strategies based in yoga postures, breathwork, and yoga nidra
